EducaJudo: An Integrated Model Combining Martial Arts and Neuro-psychomotor Intervention for the Balanced Development of Children Aged 3–5
Abstract
Preschool age (3–5 years) is a crucial phase of neuropsychomotor development and, following the restrictions of the pandemic, demand for early and qualified motor activities has increased. In this context, martial arts instructors are called to move beyond technical expertise and assume an educational role able to connect families, schools and services. EducaJudo is a teaching pathway based on judo principles that integrates pedagogical, neuropsychomotor and sport-related competences. The model combines physical contact, complex motor activities, dynamic cognitive training and mindfulness to support motor, cognitive, emotional and socio-relational development in an integrated way. In 2024, the pilot project, supported by national sport and education institutions, involved 291 professionals and approximately 4,000 children across Italy. This contribution presents the model, its educational practices, the training pathway for professionals and the main directions for research and development, with particular attention to the sustainability and replicability of the intervention.
